How to Treat Urinary Tract Infection in Dogs

One of the main symptoms of urinary tract infection in dogs is frequent wetting or dribbling. If your dog suddenly starts this behavior, then it’s time to check for canine UTI. Other symptoms of UTI are excessive thirst and blood in the urine.

Mild cases of urinary tract infection in dogs can be treated naturally, simply add a clove of garlic to his food. This also works with other mild infections. Cranberry is also good for preventing UTI.

It’s estimated around three percent of dogs suffer with canine UTI, with female dogs being more prone to the disease. It’s best prevented by keeping your dog clean, so make sure she’s bathed regularly and keep her bedding clean too.

Because urinary tract infection in dogs is a bacterial disease (e-coli), stubborn cases may require treatment with antibiotics. If your vet prescribes these, make sure you give your dog the full treatment, otherwise the UTI could return.
